Autopoietic Organizational Learning

چکیده

Complexity science frequently addresses the self-referential aspects of complex adaptive systems. Recent research in organization theory similarly refers to these systems as autopoietic. This paper reformulates existing theories of organizational learning and knowledge in terms of autopoietic organization theory. Within this framework, communication is the basic organizational operation. Organizational leaning as well as the notion of enactment are discussed as feed-back and feed-forward processes of communication. Moreover, a simulation model is developed to examine these complex processes in detail. The findings implicate that only organizational learning and enactment together account for a superior organizational performance in terms of knowledge creation.
